Mark,
Your last sentence says it all.
Just hold hope that those of us that remain "sensitive" are not viewed as "outside" of that society, but continue to bring awareness of the outrageousness of that "mentality", whether it be a beautiful race horse, or a "collaterally" (innocently killed child in Iraq, or a starving one in Darfur.
Blood thirst and "rubber necking" at car crashes on the side of the highway brings curiosity at the horror that others endure. Thank goodness it wasn't me mentality. It sells.
As a "society", the Romans remain our model. Applaud the gore of the gladiators as they murder each other running around the ring spewing blood.
Sad that we've come to that. Very sad.

I'm a fan of the Daily News, but have to agree that printing that picture was in bad taste. Very bad taste.

I believe that the big story yesterday was that breakdown. And it symbolizes all the breakdowns on dirt. I have no problem with that picture. Unfortunately it did happen and will continue to happen on the dirt.

oh come on--it's an issue with the sport itself. it's always going to happen as long as there is racing, whatever surface it's on. remember horatio nelson earlier this year?

You are sicker than first thought if you have no problem with that picture. Think about the connections. Do you think they like the last picture of the filly that they bred, and loved to be of her falling with her leg snapped. Come on, have some compassion.
DaHoss,
I'll stand up for Sumitas in that he looks for safer racing for all the horses.
I do as well.
At times, the topic gets twisted to his deep concern.
Not that that's really about the Daily Rag selling newspapers...cause it's not.
In my humble view, Sumitas is very compassionate.
We just need to discuss this in the poly room rather than here.
OK?

OK with me. I already said it belongs in the poly room.
All I was trying to say is that Sumitas hates horses breaking down as much as I do.
The picture was very sick, and I've already commented on it.
Let's get this thread moved to the poly room if that's where it needs to go.
I didn't bring poly to this thread, but in a way, I understand why Sumitas did.
RIP Pine Island.

This has nothing to do with the Poly room and shouldn't be moved anywhere.

I agree that this thread was about the Daily Rag photo.
Maybe Sumitas will comment, or better yet, start a thread in the poly room if that's where his thoughts go.
This thread should stay here and remain on the topic presented.
