Juan Vargas has defied all conventional logic winning with both of his only mounts-to-date this meet at Keeneland, taking the fourth on Beauchamp Viceroy going wire to wire after really quick early fractions over 1 1/8 on poly, then a startling middle move in the sixth at 1 1/16 on grass, a move that seemed doomed to fail - yet both horses, trained separately, stayed-on like good things. At least the first one normally runs on the lead...but still

Then he pulled away in the last 16th again to win by 4. He must be a Kent Desormeaux disciple.. although KD's last to first move down the backstretch, never seem to hold on. |

Same situation happened at Del Mar last year. Hector Berrios wins his first 2 races with big longshots for Ruben Cardenas/ Green Grass Stable (Ken Rudolph).
