Not meant as any knock on Pletcher but you make a lot of good points. He's a VERY good trainer but so are a lot of guys. And I'm sure he would agree.

this one day has too much influence on how horses are perceived, and evidently trainers as well. pletcher broke how many records this year?? the only of note i think he left standing was frankels graded races in a year--or is it just grade ones??
at any rate, he's worked hard to get to where he is, congrats to him--no doubt will repeat as eclipse trainer for '06.

Maybe Oracle can explain, but a few of Pletchers horses reeked of DMSO as they went past going to the paddock. And it wasn't the painted on smell, it was the jugged smell. I didn't think that stuff was allowed on race day.

not sure how credible, but look at #2 under withdrawal guidelines.

As of November of last year they made it a Class D drug.

http://www.kentucky.gov/Newsroom/env...sdrugrules.htm

That has the extremely stringent punishment of a written warning to the owner and trainer.

I couldn't find a date....I'm not ashamed to say I googled it. I just can't tell if the poster has a problem with Oracle or TAP, I just think accusations based on one anonymous poster's nose have no place on this board.

Accusations?? Honey, I have no problem with either. Oracle and I are cool. And I know what I smelled, I've been around it millions of times. Besides, the people around us was asking what the smell was too. We weren't the only ones smelling it.
I was told from a number of people it's not allowed in KY and was curious because I don't pay attention to KY rules. Bernardini stunk of it also.

You can run on DMSO in Kentucky as far as the rules say you can give them a bath in it on race day and its legal so.......

Thanks for the clarification, guys...

I know that DMSO smells like SHIAT and if you get it on your hands, you taste it in your mouth for a few hours. YUCK.

Yeah, my jumper had an old suspensory ligament injury that would flare up in his left hind, so we were forever applying topical DMSO to that leg. They always say to use gloves when applying that stuff, but I was too damn lazy to waste time on that, so I paid for it by tasting it all day! LOL
