No. Drysdale is way too conservative and really takes his time with imports.
If they wanted to give that horse to someone in Southern Cal, somone like Jeff Mullins who can magically improve horses almost overnight and isn't affraid to handle a young 3-year-old aggressively would have been the best choice if the KY Derby was the ultimate goal. Mullins has won several Santa Anita Derby's with horses who were complete rats before he got them. He also dominated a Wood Memorial with a horse he developed who sold fairly cheaply at the the far weaker and less prestigeous of the two Barretts 2yo sales. Mullins never got much of any young stock, but he was so deadly with whatever little of it he would get. Choctaw Nation, he took him out of a Maiden Claiming race and beat an in-form Pleasently Perfect. |

I agree with all you say. I am in Vegas now and they have Fly Lexis Fly at 25-1 in the future book. Pretty amazing.
