Too bad she's not owned by the same people that owned Island Fashion. They would have tried it. I would have liked to see her try the dirt but the problem I would have had with the Distaff is the short distance. I think that would have been more of an issue for her than the dirt. But hey, if u want to see more Europeans come over and try the "dirt", watch next year at Keeneland and at the Southern California tracks when they all have JunkTrack. Turf runners are going to start dominating over here. It would be so hilarious to see Cacique stay in training and win the Hollywood Gold Cup next year.

I just dont see any reason at all to try dirt.
there is not much to this filly and her action suggests that she is much more likely to only act on turf.
she would certainly rather run 10 or 11f than the 9f of the Distaff, so thats a negative.

the Distaff and the FMT are worth the same amount of purse money.
nothing about the pedigree suggests dirt.

I say keep her on her natural surface unless you were going to try the Classic or DWC.

Ouija Board is owned by Lord Derby, very much a traditionalist who regards dirt racing as something of anathema. That is the reason OB has/will never be tried on any surface other than turf.

if it isn't broke.....
it's a shame that a good, no, outstanding turf horse is still found to be lacking if he/she hasn't run on the dirt. euros are turfers, it's their 'dirt'. we can't use our dirt is tops philosophy when judging euro stars.

She is only lacking in the minds of crazy people. She is probably the best filly we have seen in decades.

Cacique is retiring to Banstead Manor Stud. Turf horses are not going to start dominating over here. There is no evidence of this whatsoever. The "JunkTrack" has had no breakdowns and has increased handle tremendously. Better horse safety and more money. How to you knock that?
