![]() i agree. it seems horses who build up tend to do better than those who get earnings early on and then stroll into the derby. they have the money, but they don't have the 'bottom' to use an old expression. with the advent of the bcj, it seems people are asking horses to go too far too soon. precocious horses excel, but then are caught by their peers the following spring. so, some have the earnings, but not the ability. it's why only 3 yo earnings should count for getting in the gate in may.
