It's a show with aging stars and an obvious disdain for the average bettor. It's not acceptable. |

Has a 7.8 rating at IMDb; not bad for a new show. We'll see if its got legs.

I'm really wondering if the naysayers on here have ever watched this type of show on HBO before. There are plenty of em to review through history, and more often than not, the viewer is rewarded. I just don't watch two shows on HBO, dramas, and abandon after two episodes. It's not like a comedy where either you think it is or isn't funny...just my thought.

I'm sticking with it, but through 2 episodes it's not even close to the same level as preceding HBO productions. The glaring continuity issues aside, (have been discussed ad nauseum) - the whole thing is a mish-mash of uninteresting subplots thus far - The Richard Kind character is over the top; the dynamic between Hoffman and Farina is awkward at best (Farina should be a natural in that role, but he comes off as though he has no idea what Milich is trying to get from him), as I mentioned before, the accent on the Ortiz character is so strong, he's uninterpretable without subtitles.
I think Nick Nolte comes off the best as far as a believable, interesting character and time will tell if this gets tied together - Hoping for the best but to this point, it's just...weird. |

I thought episode 2 was just ok. Rude your not alone, I had to put on the close captioning cause I couldn't understand every other word. I enjoy all the storylines except the one revolving around Dustin Hoffman (and Farina). Unfortunately that seems like the main one. Obviously I'm going to continue to watch it, but I have to admit that I lost intrest at times during this episode.

I think Game of thrones and Sopranos are two of the best shows ever. I watch Trueblood. Treme. Boardwalk empire. And each one of those shows was much better after the first two episodes in my opinion. Believe me-i want to like this show. I really do. Its just not very good so far. The pacing is slow and the only character that is remotely interesting thus far is the Peruvian trainer. Of course i will watch it because I love the sport and I can halfway follow what is going on but so far its mediocre at best. |

Since we're talkng about TV I'll try to slip this in without getting smashed.
Smash. No not the Baffert horse. The new series on NBC. Did anybody watch it? What did you think? It was must see TV for me cuz I'm such an addict for Broadway musicals. Thought it was pretty good. Liked the character played by Megan Hilty. Have to admit I'm a bit biased though since I've seen her about 50,000 times as Glinda in Wicked. ![]() |

I am enjoying pretty much all the characters. Kevin done for example and his ball breaking of the other degenrates is making me laugh. I am also intrigued with upcoming characters, like Mike that Ace mentioned. I am guessing perhaps Michael Gambon may be portraying Mike, and he is a very talented actor in my opinion. I am pretty sure we're gonna see him this week in episode 3. Nolte's character Mr. Smith has this promising horse, and he's tabbed Gary Steven's jockey character to ride him, we know that character's got issues, so this big race upcoming in episode 4 is peaking my interest as well. I thought John Perrotta's writing was very good, between him and Milch we have some good unfolding storylines here folks, the wife and I are hooked and we think Luck is terrific. My wife is not really a racing fan, but she is into this and perhaps it will peak her interest in the game too, and that would be wonderful. As i am sure is is drawing other new fans to racing, which is very good as well.

I hate to say it but I don't care for Luck. I don't think I'll be watching any more episodes
Most of the characters are seedy and I'm not interested in their stories at all. The show is not holding my attention because I don't care about these characters. The only story line I like is Nick Nolte and his horse. Then we have.......In the first episode we saw a horse break down and in the second episode we found out that the sire of Nick's horse got his legs broken for insurance money. Then we learned how awful the sound is of a horses legs being broken. Yes, I know horses break down. But the first episode? Geesh. No thanks. ![]() |
