South Carolina has about as much relevance to the national consciousness as the Pittsburgh Pirates do in determining the best team in the majors

Watch it bud, i take exception to your remark about the Pirates..Been a Pirate fan since the days of Ralph Kiner (who's he you ask..look him up).
Just because we've been in the basement for 20 years is no reason to compare them to South Carolina (btw, my son lives in Columbia)...and i still have my admission ticket to the first game of the 1960 World Series in which we kicked Yankee butt...Ok to compare SC to the Cleve Indians..

Emotion trumps reality as it often does at the expense of logic

No need for me to look Kiner up. The first baseball bat I ever picked up (around 1950 or so) was my older brother's Ralph Kiner model Louisville Slugger. Damn thing had a narrow handle and a huge head, like a war club!
Heavy as hell. We were Brooklyn Dodger fans, but respected Kiner, who used to kill the Dodgers.

Of course, he later became a NY Mets announcer (maybe still is), but the last time I heard him, he sounded like he had marbles in his mouth. Guess he's in his mid-80's, right?

What's the over/under on number of weeks before Newt self-destructs (again)? Gotta hand it to the guy; he's got more lives than a cat. He's also got a mouth on him bigger than Steven Tyler's, who flubbed the anthem at the game yesterday.

Two. Watching the self-styled elite, educated professor, 40-year Washington lobbyist insider sell himself to the Tea Party was pretty funny. But the Southern Strategy is all about one issue, and Newt has grabbed it, blew it and played it for the win.

Won't fly in Florida. But they have no other choices, as Mittens is so useless. Very sad, what this political party has come to.

A funny from Slate http://www.slate.com/slideshows/news...s-doodles.html

Newt, the self-styled Messiah, writes about himself:

These notes and doodles, handwritten by Newt Gingrich, appear in a series of exhibits appended to a report published on Jan. 17, 1997 by the House Select Committee on Ethics. The notes are mainly from the period leading up to his big 1994 victory. The text at left reads:

Gingrich—Primary Mission
—Advocate of civilization
—definer of civilization
—Teacher of the rules of civilization
—arouser of those who form civilization
—Organizer of the pro-civilization activists
—leader (possibly) of the civilizing forces.

Yowser. Those Republicans are all about voting fraud. Look what just happened in the Iowa GOP primary - votes from two districts just lost and never counted, the wrong candidate announced as a winner. And now this.

This is huge news. There are only 9 documented cases, in the last 20 years, of the wrong people actually being allowed to vote in a presidential election and prosecuted. So 900 in one state would be huge.

bear in mind that 600 SC republicans voted for Michele Bachmann, so really the results of the primary don't prove anything other than Darwin was wrong.

Mike, he will be 90 this Oct...

Despite a bout with Bell's palsy, which left him with slightly slurred speech, Kiner is still broadcasting, entering his fiftieth year of doing Mets broadcasts as of the start of the 2011 baseball season, though only as an occasional guest analyst..
