Just from the football point of view the guy has not won a National Championship since before I was born. His teams are always ranked but always overrated because of the name attached to it. When was the last really good team they had at Penn St? It was sad seeing an old man and his wife on the porch last night, even I felt a little bit bad. 2010 they lost to every ranked team they played. Alabama, Iowa, Ohio St and Michigan St. They were blown out of 3 of those games and also blown out at unranked Illinois. Like I said they were not that good, but living off the past with high rankings.

2009 they lost to Iowa at home week 4. Basicley ending any National Championship chance. They also lost to Ohio St again. Nothing wrong with the year they had, but they were out of the National Championship race early on.

2008 I cant argue much here. They had a nice team this year, but once again find a way to blow a game at Iowa. I tryed looking it up, and Im pretty sure they were a 14.5 point road favorite.

This year... I dont think anyone would argue that the Big 10 is not down. Ohio St is rebuilding, Wisconsin was supposed to be good and they have blown 2 games. Penn St has played 1 ranked team and they could not move the ball at all, they looked like a high school team. They are the most fortunate 8-1 team EVER. They have stuggled with Temple, Indiana, Iowa, Purdue and Illinois... Everyone of those teams sucks. Now I get they might be able to rally because of the Joe Pa situation, but they are very likely to finish off 0-3. The thing that might save them from going 0-3 is that like I said earlier the Big 10 is down. Nebraska and Ohio St are not that good. Ill say very best case for them is 1-2 if they beat Nebraska in Happy Valley.

Gee Satan's Twin, tell us how you really feel. I actually agree with many of your points, where I differ is that I do believe in due process and you are assuming a lot seems to me. Does Sandusky have dirt on Paterno? Perhaps but while that makes some intuitive sense it's a long way from fact. The chief complaint I have is that everyone seems so willing to accept that McCreary told Paterno the same thing he told the grand jury...this from a guy who walks into a scene where a young boy is being savaged by an old man and instead of stopping the child's torment, he turns and runs away. Is this a man of virtue and character, a man who years later tries to make himself into some sort of a hero in front of a grand jury? There is no defense for what Sandusky did and no defense for those involved in the coverup which allowed this animal to continue torturing kids, I just would like to see a little solid evidence that Paterno's motive was to participate in the coverup. All in all, now that it's done, PSU probably had no choice but to terminate Paterno's employment but it just adds to the foul taste in my mouth. No, just trying to avoid being caught up in this debate, it is a passionate subject and I understand why folks are angry...hell, I am too! But I just think that too often these things turn into lynch mobs and sometimes innocent folks get caught up in the mess. The concept of due process exists for good reason and as an old coot who remembers first hand days when some folks were not afforded same, in fact the term lynch mob was more than just a figure of speech, I can't help but wish that we wouldn't crucify folks in the arena of public opinion prior to knowing the truth.

While it contains plenty of details regarding Sandusky's sick behavior, it really doesn't address what McCreary actually told Paterno and I admit we may never know. But I have a hard time believing a coward like McCreary went into the graphic detail that he expressed to the grand jury when talking to Paterno. Perhaps he did, and perhaps Paterno watered it down from there but if I've learned anything in my life it's that leopards don't change their spots...we know what kind of a man McCreary is from his own admission...he's a coward who ran away from a helpless child being brutalized. Paterno in 60 plus years always conducted himself with integrity and insisted on a clean program...did he do a complete about face in this case? Not saying he didn't but I sure would like to see some indication that he did if so. I agree that given the time span and prior reports that Sandusky was a pervert, it's fair to ask how Paterno didn't know, and it's even more troubling that Sandusky remained on campus right under Paterno's nose after this incident...these are valid questions but I'm not sure we know the answers. In any event, it's all moot now, PSU took the action they did and Paterno is out.....and I'm fresh out of chicken legs and newt eyes so I can't bring a plague down on anyone!
