![]() Drosselmeyer Decision Due Next Week
Updated: 5:37 PM ET (First posted: 5:35 PM ET) Officials at WinStar Farm will make a decision on the future of GI Breeders' Cup Classic hero Drosselmeyer (Distorted Humor) sometime next week, according to a release from the farm. The 4-year-old was originally set to retire to stud in New York in 2012, but those plans have been rescinded, owing to a clause in the contract which allowed for flexibility were the colt to win the Classic. "All options are open for Drosselmeyer, and we expect to make a decision by some time next week," said Elliott Walden, WinStar President & CEO. "Our phone has been ringing off the hook since Saturday's big win, including Mike Smith lobbying to keep the horse in training. So we're weighing all of our options and will do what we feel is best for Drosselmeyer and WinStar." With his victory at Churchill Downs, Drosselmeyer became his sire's all-time leading money winner and took his earnings to $3,728,170. He joins A.P. Indy as the only horses to win a Belmont and the Classic and is one of just seven horses to win a Triple Crown and Breeders' Cup event, joining the likes of Unbridled, Sunday Silence and Curlin.

![]() Bloodhorse: The decision to possibly race Drosselmeyer again is presumably to give him a chance at a year-end Eclipse Award. If he were to win another grade I race, he would throw himself into the mix for champion older male, or perhaps even Horse of the Year. The Clark Handicap (gr. I) at Churchill Downs on Nov. 25 would be a likely possibility for Drosselmeyer since he just won the Classic over the Churchill Downs main track.

![]() Can I add a third option?
No, but he deserves kissys and pepperments for recovering my day. |

![]() He's an OK horse, but a win in the Clark isn't going to help with HOY. He'd be a serious prospect for older male.

![]() I would think he would have to win the Clark in dominant fashion to even register as a Horse of the Year finalist.
Even though she failed twice at 10fs this year -- Havre De Grace would be my choice for HoY. She won her division nicely, she defeated males in the Woodward -- beating a next out easy Jockey Club Gold Cup winner over Drosselmeyer, and she crushed the soon to be champion 3yo filly Royal Delta a few weeks ago. At less than 10fs -- Havre De Grace was 5-for-5, four Beyers of 105 or higher, and 3 Grade 1 wins in an absolutely awful year for males. |
