Quite frankly when this was announced, I was stunned. I figured that the hit the they took on JCGC day would surely hurt them badly. Guess people like this dirt racing stuff to bet on after all. Wonder how the Empire racing boys will try and spin this? Their attempt to spin the handle gain at Saratoga was to say that not enough people were shopping on Broadway. They actually said that, to reporters!!!!! How do you figure they will spin this one? |

![]() They wont be able to spin it when Keeneland discloses the handle they have produced. I figure there is probably about a Million dollars daily being swung out to NY in favor of conventional racing. Not for the fact Keeneland doesnt have a quality product, because they do. The best horses just arent winning there. Serious handicappers are in the game to make money, not piss it away in awe of a new surface.

![]() Excellent points by Gary Delabonte. lol
The really funny thing though is how NYRA just left out Breeders Cup weekend from last year. If they included it the numbers would be down. What do we just pick the numbers we like. Last I checked the point was to increase handle no matter what, and NYRA did not do that. It is like a pizza parlor in a Superbowl city going out of business and saying our revenue was up this year if you don't count the superbowl weekend from last year. Who cares. The revenues are still down. |
