The world has changed significantly since the days of Spudnik, it really isn't a race now days, Russia and the US cooperate in many ventures and there is little if any tactical advantage anymore. The US will hopefully concentrate on new ventures while allowing the private sector to assume a greater role in shuttle type missions. I still dream of the day when we land on Mars and eventually explore the entire solar system and beyond but that won't happen in my lifetime....unless the Vulcans visit.

The US will hopefully concentrate on spending the money that they wasted on NASA all these years and spend it in a much more useful manner. Going forward they should let the private sector assume all roles in shuttle type missions. I still dream of the day when we land on Mars and eventually explore the entire solar system and beyond but that won't happen in my lifetime....unless the Vulcans visit.
