![]() Wine Police is the horse I am holding out hope for to save the 3yo class this year. I was so impressed with his maiden win.

The entire top of the 3yo class is made up of horses who still freaking have ALW conditions left. Seriously, how fucl<ing pathetic is that? Look at the PP's of the '81 Derby ... every horse in the field has run through his N2X. Most wouldn't qualify for N5X conditions. The nicest thing you can say about the top of this years 3yo crop is "they've yet to prove that they suck because they haven't raced enough - and some might have a lot more devlopment in them" Bottom line, they simply don't race and don't train. I'm sure there is a good reason why trainers are so deathy affraid to ask these horses to do anything ... maybe for every one who would thrive under a tough schedule - another ten would be completely ruined by the same handling. Everyone is affraid to ruin all their horses ... and the horses themselves don't appear to be profiles of hardiness. A lot of them still get hurt in spite of the fact that they're trained and raced with kid gloves. There's a lot of hope for this class. Nothing but hope. None of them have accomplished jack sh!t. The Kentucky Derby was a dressed up and glorified N2X Alw. Friggen Maclean's Music and Uncle Mo might as well be called the most accomplished horses of this crop. |

![]() I haven't spent a great deal of time on the race but I'm fairly certain Wine Police is not even the best Asmussen horse in the race. You have to bet against any Asmussen horse off of this type of layoff at a short price.

My father said he administered both Sublimaze and Ritalin to horses he trained when he was a trainer. He told me that anyone who thinks Sublimaze is as a/effective (word police?) a hop as Ritalin doesn't know what they're talking about. He said neither one of them work that well on horses who can't run - but basically, for an old beat up class horse off-form, sublimaze can help and Ritalin can help a whole lot. His training career basically ended when he got a bad test for Ritalin. He said he had an old horse (named Noticable if I recall) who could barely walk - give it Ritalin - and it would go out and fire every week. He said someone found out - and complained that Ritalin was being abused. He said in those days - and maybe still today - a substance wouldn't come up in a drug test unless they were looking for it. So, all of a sudden, after someone tipped the powers that be off, he and two other trainers come up with bad tests for Ritalin in the same night. One of them, by the way, is a guy who later trained a 1990's Kentucky Derby winner as a 2yo. They all get ruled off for the season and suspended. He also said he was tipped off by a track employee before they searched his barn and informed him he had a bad test. I suppose if Affirmed did get Sublimaze like Allday and Slewis claim - he probably didn't get it until his 4yo season after soundly losing the Malibu at 1/5 odds and the San Fernando at 1/2 odds... he responded with a 10 length Gr 1 win at 4/5 in his next start - recaptured his best form - and never was beat again. I know Cannon Shell has a woody about how great lasix is - but I doubt something that dehydrates the hell out of horses everytime is good for helping horses train and campaign hard. Crazy talk coming from me - I never had a trainers license and I don't know jack sh!t about any of these meds - but maybe getting rid of lasix and allowing some old-school dopes that will help horses race and train more often is what is needed to make the sports racing product better. |

Quick story. We have tried for the last three weeks to get a straight 3 year old nw1 race for Prospect Knight. Entered at Parx, got 3 horses. We entered in New York a couple days ago and they got a total of 2 horses. Parx was a 47k pot and NY was 53k. We are now forced to run in a stakes race in two weeks that while we might be competitive, it still isn't how we would have liked to do things. |
