The casino is great if you like sitting at $100 minimum tables. That being said, the racing side features a great buffet, legendary Charles Town mainstay Jeff Gilleas, and freaking outrageous purses for what was basically a bullring five years ago. PEN has done wonders for Jefferson County.
And I've actually seen Fancy Buckles run a couple times in her day - who knew they'd name a stakes race after her? ETA - the on-site hotel isn't all bad either, and is a quick hop from the casino itself.

P.S. - heck of a nice field for the Red Legend, incidentally.

On a daily basis, Charles Town has turned into the home of the $11,000 purse. For a place with slots and table games, their average daily purses suck.
I still remember the days of the $23k+ purses for a $5k claimer, and the 20+ way shakes for a horse - actually won one of those........and it wasn't that long ago. |

Well, anybody who expected JP's Gusto to win like that, raise their hand. Yikes.
