Actually, I am pretty sure they paid 16 million dollars. If that is the number on the auction board when the hammer hit, that is what they paid. The sale charges a 5% commission, but it was still 16 mill that was dropped for this animal.
A gentleman that I work with, who has been to the sale thousands of times and bought plenty of horses confirmed this for me.
