I've always wondered why jockeys don't try to time things in their head. You know, like count, one thousand one, one thousand two, etc..

Is it because they don't know what thousand means? Or they cannot count past 59?

I'm pretty sure they do this in Australia, so I assume some jocks do it here as well.

Lots of times when the on-track presenters are dissecting a race after the fact, they will reference the jock counting until [insert number] on the turn, etc...

Maybe it is just a saying, and no jocks are actually counting out there...

He just isn't as good as people seem to think he is. That allowance they ran him in was dreadful and shows exactly what the horse is all about, a one run close that isn't all that much run. He's Gr 2/3 quality, which is still pretty good, but not top of the heap.

I actually think that it might be possible that almost all of the jocks in this country are too stupid to count/time themselves during a race.

How was that allowance dreadful? The horse that beat him darn near beat some of the best handicap horses in American in the Alysheba.

That really isn't saying much.

Well, winning the Derby wasn't saying much this year either. I just don't get the hate for Dialed In.

By the by, the same thing y'all are saying about Leparoux could probably be applied to Borel as well.
