If Gio Ponti wins do we have a new all-time earnings leader?

A speed horse against those poly plodders always has a chance. Remember Well Armed?

I was mentioning to Pat Cummings today how our American horses won 9 out of the 14 World Cup's run on dirt - and finished no worse than 2nd in all 14 years.

He tried valiantly to convince me that Street Cry wasn't an American horse.

Game On Dude's chances of getting into the field are slim, but better than I Want Revenge chances of getting an invite. Each horse gets rated by the track handicapper, a number that essentially ranks horses on par with each other based on success, company, recent performance, etc. Considering Game On Dude just won an open G1 race (regardless of competition), he'd almost absolutely have a rating higher than I Want Revenge.

As it stands now - the likely field, which is limited to 14 starters.

1 - Twice Over
2 - Bold Silvano
3 - Musir
4 - Golden Sword
5 - Gitano Hernando
6 - Buena Vista
7 - Gio Ponti
8 - Victoire Pisa
9 - Flesh For Fantasy
10 - Richard's Kid
11 - Cape Blanco
12 - Transcend
13 - Mendip***
14 - ...Fly Down...

The only one on that list above that is really questionable is Mendip, who was less than stellar winning on Super Thursday. Fly Down has long pointed to the race, so I'd give him a better chance to end up in the field. The Dubai Racing Club issues invitations to the race and it's all but confirmed that the first 13 on that list have an invite should they choose to accept it. Poet's Voice would get that last spot if they wanted it, but then again, he might represent Godolphin instead of Mendip.

Horses announced as possible for the race -
Poet's Voice
Skysurfers
Deem
Win For Sure
Spring Of Fame
Game On Dude
I Want Revenge

Is Cape Blanco still a Coolmore horse? Have they ever run a horse in Dubai?

He is part of the Ballydoyle contingent - but an interest was just sold to Mrs. Fitriani Hay (owner of Redding Colliery, among others). They had one starter in Dubai history - Powerscourt finished fifth in the 2005 Dubai Sheema Classic.

Maybe Baffert can pitch this one to Zabeel for a pile, then all of a sudden
Pat would like his chances to get into the race and win
