You will be safe in the Esplanade area outside the Mystery Street entrance. There is a good French bistro nearby on Esplanade named Cafe Degas. New Orleans is a great restaurant town. FWIW, my favorite is Brigtsen's. Award winning chef and owner Frank Brigtsen is a big racing fan.
