| Both juvy stake winners go in 1:09.3, bettering ALW winner Holyfield's 1:10.0 (guessing mid-hi 80's Beyers). The Darley colt Fort Hughes was a no-excuse 2nd at 2-5 in the Southampton behind the Patricia Farro Red Bullet gelding (Royal Currier), and Alexandra Rylie really got herself back in the right direction.

| 82 for both. . . good to see Alexandra Rylee run faster after the last one. I don't think Fort Hughes is fully recovered from whatever caused him to miss the Remsen. |

| The horse that beat Fort Hughes is not terrible and was a great claim by Patty Farro. I hope Alexandra Rylee continues to improve as well. |

| Fort Hughes wasn't considered for the 1 1/8 mile Remsen. I got a tweet yesterday that his missed training was because of a spiked fever, so that was nothing serious. The winner had much more experience, a stakes win and had never been out of the exacta. I don't think any excuse was needed for Fort Hughes to run 2nd to him. |

| Quote:
Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said Darley Stable’s impressive maiden winner Fort Hughes will likely make his next start in the Grade 2, $150,000 Nashua on November 6 at Aqueduct. A 5 ˝-length debut winner at Belmont Park on October 10 going 5 ˝ furlongs, Fort Hughes is a son of top sprinter Henny Hughes, whom McLaughlin also trained. “We worry a little about the distance, jumping up to a mile, but he’s training very well, so we figure we’ll give it a try and see how it goes,” McLaughlin said. “He looks a lot like [Henny Hughes], powerfully built, and we worry about the distance with him because of that, but right now maybe we can get away with it.” http://www.horseracingnation.com/new...ort_Hughes_123 |
