When I tried to rate the best 2yo turf horses of both genders during the last decade - and the 90's - I was pretty surprised how so many of them didn't develop or improve all that much going forward. I probably considered 50 or 60 or so horses in total... so it was very surprising to me. A lot of them were close to forgotten horses.

Although, a small few of them did become very good dirt horses. Barbaro, Peace Rules, and Big Brown.

Interactif was outstanding in his first two turf races last year - and he's 1-for-7 this year with the lone win a nose victory in the Hall of Fame .. and that's pretty good maturation in relation to a lot of the others I considered.

English Channel only raced 1 time as a 2YO. He turned out pretty decent after that.

3yo turf fillies have little incentive to crank-up early. Most of their bigger races are later on in the year.
