On a serious note, too bad the connections didn't take advantage of trying different surfaces in this era. Because great horses like Secretariat or Dr Fager would never have tried to run of a different surface like turf...
While I am in no way comparing her to Secretariat or Fager, it is noteworthy that Sec ran on the other " different surface " of that time exactly as many times as Z did, and Fager half that ...

Unless you consider a third surface that was in brief use in that era somewhere on the eastern leaky roof circuit--pea gravel .

I know you probably don't but do you realize that Dr fager and Secretariat dominated the best turf horses in training in those races? And while you personally may not have used these two horses in particular by name, if you want to call Zenyatta an all time great be prepared to be compared to those which actually belong in that class.

I think Kennedy Road and Advocator will have some comparable dirt horses in the Classic for Z to run at ....

And though Fager beat him, he only hung about a head on Advocator, rather than dominating him . Nerud said he disliked the turf, so that may or may not be factored in .

Prepared, sir ...

Tentam was a well beaten second to Secretariat in the Man O War. That year he won:
The Met Mile (Gr1)
The UN Handicap (Gr1) (at the time comparable to the Arlington Million is now)
The Governors stakes (Gr1) (track record) Race at Belmont since discontinued
The Bernard Baruch (Gr2)
The Tobboggan

Zenyatta beat Switch

Dr Fager beat not only Advocator who was a very good horse but the 3 time grass champion and Hall of Famer, Ft Marcy as well. Carrying 134 pounds.

Zenyatta beat who?

She will face the best we have at present--arguably--in the Classic --if she beats them all, you will know who ...

Nothing like the past, and out of the safety zone only twice--I agree .

As you know, yesterday's horses carried more, did more and tried more ...

Wish it weren't so ...

Secretariat also beat Big Spruce, who won the San Luis Rey and finished second to Dahlia in the D.C. International that year.

But he couldn't win races that started with the letter "W"
