Look, just because the NYRA stewards have been allowing Castellano to HERD for years doesn't mean this is correct. The one time he tried this **** @ WO, they slapped his ass down. HERDING is dangerous. It forces the other rider to either YIELD, allowing the herder to win, or plow into the herder. Which option do you think that any sane jock would take? It's an incredible advantage. Why is Castellano supposed to repeatedly get away with it? Hopefully, this establishes new ground for how NYRA treats herding from this point forward.

I've given up in looking for consistency from stewards (with the exception of the WO stewards, who are the best in the game). I just don't want to see this prick keep getting away with this ****.

Good luck with that.

Even Lezcano couldn't screw that one up.

This filly looks like she might be ok. She got an inside run and Lezcano couldn't keep her on righty lead but she looked good.

She sure as hell wasn't a secret. I'm a Toner fan so I hope she turns out to be a good one. Rice's horse ran well to be a clear 2nd after tracking that pace.

I agree on the Rice horse, one to keep an eye on after that early pace, big effort.

I agree that Castellano's herding is a problem. An argument can be made that he initially was trying to herd the 3 and then saw the 1 coming and intentionally took the horse outside to take the path. I just thought the path was clear when he did it and it was tough for someone holding a ticket on the 7 to swallow.

If NYRA stewards are sending a message to Castellano then they have to be consistent on hitting him when he herds. The question is will they take real action. Does he get days for it? I doubt it.
