Sad as it is to say ... The Whitney field is without question by far the best field assembled for a horse race so far this year.

Looking forward to the Honorable Miss Hdcp. Not for the contestants, but for the mare the race was named after.

She was a fun mare to watch in action. She raced against the boys before Winning Colors and Genuine Risk did. Typically, 10-15 lengths back during the early call of a 6 or 7 furlong sprint --- she would close like a freight train - - I think she carried 130 lbs or more on at least two occasions.

I have color slides of her at Belmont Park in 1975 or 1976 (if only I could find them). I think Shoemaker rode her that day

One of my favorites trained by the great Frank Whiteley....

Wasn't Shy Dawn in that same era, with a similar running style?

Yes, she was a really nice mare also.

I think she ran in the 1976 Affectionately Hdcp at Aqueduct. She was owned by Jacques D. Wimpfheimer, trained by W. Sedlacek and ridden by Angel Cordero. The same connections also had the infamous Jacques Who at the same time who had a penchant for finishing 2nd in his races.

Shy Dawn typically ran against other fillies and mares like Proud Delta and Mary Queenofscots.

Great racing era !!!!!!

Of course The Whitney, but also the race before that - The Test; especially Champagne D'Oro.

The Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville, the Missile at Randwick, (Buttercup in) the Test, Messieurs QR and Blame and Ms. Zenyatta of course and last but certainly not least Woodbine R7 (shut up, I love Santana Strings even if he never wins. Huge fan. Leave me alone.).

Best name for a race is the 16:50 at Worcester (well it's actually on Friday, but still...)

The Pershore Plum Festival Land O' Plums Handicap Chase.

Very happy... he did well! (For him he did. ).

He was 3rd. Good enough.

(I didn't play this race so I'm not patting myself on the back for picking the 3rd place finisher.)

Agree with the Whitney, but I love a good sprint and the Vanderbilt is interesting.

Blame wont even sniff QR's as$, Musket Man has the best shot of beating QR with the weight differential. QR MM run 1 2 again. Take it to the bank

That perfecta will pay about $4.80.....do you even have to fill out a deposit slip for that?

So Musket Man is decidedly better than Blame in your opinion?

Calm down I was just making a harmless little joke. BTW I might get really crazy and $1 per box it instead of playing it just the one way!!!

I'm looking forward to Mountaineer's 9th on Saturday, W. Virginia Speakers Cup. I'm with my old friend Railroad, who appears in here at 30-1 ml odds. Railroad is 3-3 on the Mountaineer grass.

Haynesfield in the Whitney. The test is the best lineup, really looking forward to watching that one. Still.

A. You're making fun of me for my WVA Derby post (in which case I'll tell you exactly where you can stick it).

OR

B. You're my soul brothah!

I don't understand why all of these other fools are so interested in the Whitney, considering you already told us how it ends.
