Default 7-26: Saratoga (Day 4-Shipman; $48k C/O)

Busy morning with 9-10a ATR and then Capital OTB-TV 10:30-11:30a, but wanted to be sure everyone enjoyed the weekend. Especially wonderful Sunday with more than 40 Dee Tee partners, family and friends attending Ausable Chasm's debut. The filly was short and tired to 6th, but had an overall positive experience through several tough elements including the rail draw and heavy mud flung at her for half mile. She'll come back August 16 or 22.

Was a nice day from a wagering standpoint Sunday as well with a few good opinions and plays coming through including the $123.50 exacta in the Sanford. I have to apologize for transcribing the 2nd race selections into the P4 incorrectly though, as that botched the modest $90.50 payoff. Third race longshot try A Smart Judge gave a great effort at an overlaid 27-1 as well, though you had to settle for the exacta with the 4-5 Morrison comebacker Cody Samora. Hope you did well! Carryover today of $48k...

Utterly treacherous nightcap that could derail anyone's P6 play. Rain overnight in Saratoga Springs??

Still too early for updates about turf races from NYRA. Any predictions about which races will be on/off.

Montgomery County Maryland continues it's Rod Serling weather patterns yesterday as for the first time in my lifetime the Emergency Broadcast System was activated with a tornado sighting that ripped through the area knocking out power overnight in the majority of the county per PEPCO.

This little 10 square mile area has seen in 2010:
1) 9 feet of snow in 11 days this winter. An event beyond bizzare.
2) The largest east coast earthquake in 100 years last week with the epicenter a mile away
3) An activation of the EBS for a tornado that left the county in the stone age for power overnight having dropped 2 inches of rain in 20 minutes that would have made Helen Hunt and her flying cow proud!!

What could possibly be left?

Thanks Herk.....so if it's fast and firm and they are dark tomorrow. why take the 6th off?

I'd rather play a dirt race in the late P4 than a turf sprint, but I can never make consistent sense of the decisions these guys make given the dark day in this case to allow the course to recover a bit. Maybe this will someday be part of the "Stewards Explanations" movement they are advertising this year and they will actually tell the players how they come to these decisions.

Tom,

Too, too kind. Thanks a lot... Had a good handle on that race and am pleased you hit. And you absolutely need to get to Saratoga. Some will scoff at this, but it's getting better and better in a lot of ways... Hope you get the chance to visit next year or as soon as you can!
