Default NYT:White House, Lobbyists Meeting Off-Site

The Obama Administration has been having hundreds of meetings with lobbyists, but instead of meeting at the White House where there will be a record of the meetings in the visitor-log, they have the meetings at coffee houses where there will be no record of the meeting. So much for Obama claiming that he would have "the most transparent presidential administration in history". I think he meant to say "the least transparent".

From the New York Times article: "The off-site meetings, lobbyists say, reveal a disconnect between the Obama administration’s public rhetoric — with Mr. Obama himself frequently thrashing big industries’ “battalions” of lobbyists as enemies of reform — and the administration’s continuing, private dealings with them."

I know one person that will be reading this article covering their ears and yelling, "La La La La La La La La". LOL.

Others, however, acknowledge that one motivation is the desire to avoid lobbyists’ names showing up too often on the White House logs.

A senior White House official said, “We don’t believe there’s anything untoward about these meetings, and we don’t think that represents any special access for lobbyists.”

nothing to see here, people. move along.

politics as usual. no different; no change.
