Done deal.. Oak Tree at Santa Anitra set for a ONE YEAR deal to run this fall.

Surface change AFTER next winter's Santa Anita meet...

Don't forget that he has a new surface that he's going to debut at Palm Meadows so that it can receive rave reviews then be installed at SA.

silica sand - they are going to test it at Palm Meadows for training this winter...

Frank is quite a guy . They screw up the new track at SA so he says ... the heck with it, I'll create a new surface myself .

Sand can be made of many different materials, but what we know as sand in the US is normally predominantly Silica.
The reason Silica is used is that it is harder and doesn't break down into finer particles as easily. Finer particles pack down and compact and get hard easier.

Most tracks in the US (synthetic or "dirt") are made of a mixture of 75-85% sand along with clay, silt, loam, (and in the case of synthetics) other "stuff".

I believe the nylon he's talking about will be used as a screen to keep the top layer(s) of the track from getting into the bigger crushed stone and drains.

On paper this could work, but on paper synthetics do, too.
