Any race ML would be in vs a group of "the best ever" would set up for his style, I have no doubt in my mind he would be competitive with all of these.

he probably would be competitive vs the horses listed. still doesn't make him maybe the best sprinter ever, or even close. he ran one huge race in the forego. his breeders cup wins were okay, but nothing great and its not like he beat any great horses. take a look at the horses cannon shell mentioned and what they accomplished. look at a horse like housebuster. i could name a dozen more.

he was a nice horse who was compromised because he was so big. he had gate issues due to his size. but lets be a little realistic about him.

He had breathing issues.

Baffert maintained all along that he was cut out to be a router and that without the breathing issue, he'd have been an unstoppable force going long.

he was also huge and had trouble in the gate because he was so big. but you are right, he had serious breathing issues. you clearly have followed the sport for many years and have seen some good ones. was midnight lute one of, if not the best sprinters ever?

I think just on raw talent, your not NEARLY GIVING HIM ENOUGH CREDIT. As talented as anyone the last 10 years, not saying he is the best, but just as talented as anyone.

you went from maybe one of the best ever to as talented as anyone in the last 10 years. i can probably agree with that. its really hard to tell just how good he might have been. but based on what he did on the track, he doesnt belong on any all time lists.

I think Precisionist in the mile race, provided he was given free reign, would have fared well.

Does anyone remember those meetings between Precisionist and Greinton in 1985, from the Strub through those HP summer races.

don't get me wrong, i really like ML a lot and think on his day he was really tough, but beating a horse like Phone Trick? No.

I think he probably was the best sprinter on that list however. Maybe KG, maybe him.

That is a huge backpedal from "may be the best ever". Now he's "competitive".
