![]() My gentle tears for your plight are overflowing, joeydb.
I truly feel for you and wish that we could somehow reverse all of the things that made being a white, straight, able-bodied man as ridiculously tough and patently unfair as it is these days. It really has gotten out of control, and we should all band together and find a way to do something about it because nobody should have to go through life being that disadvantaged in so many ways. How can anyone ever have any reasonable expectation of success, what with so many strikes against them before they even get started? It's a testament to your fortitude that you've managed to overcome all of your inherent disadvantages, joeydb, and because of that example you've set and the incredible courage you've shown in refusing to be kept down and never taking no for an answer, I'm glad to say that I'm proud to share this internet space with a true American success story and hero like you. |

If you feel threatened by (gasp) someone challenging all this political correctness, I guess it's really a house of cards. Wow, imagine if I were in elected office -- we could trash all this P.C. stuff overnight. I don't need to be politically correct. "Political" is a qualifier of sorts -- I'm just correct. Interesting that the colleges have "Women's studies" and "Latino Studies" and others, but not "White Male" studies. Actually, they do. It's called "History". I reject ALL of the group rights focus. The individual is where all rights reside, no matter what ethnic background, sex, lifestyle, whatever. But no individual should be penalized because of his or her background - not even the white ones. Oh, and by the way, a group cannot claim equality and rely on preferences at the same time. |

![]() joey, I think you're going to be very disappointed in the future, white males in the US are on the way to permanent minority status.

Will they suddenly get all kinds of preferences once they slip into the minority? I think not. This always seems to be a one way street. The majority -- today I guess it's slightly "white" -- is always the group paying for all this crap. The working people can't stay home and have as many kids as they want. Nobody is going to pay for THEIR kids. They don't get an unearned check. |

I didn't start this thread. But when the premise is that "men are about to be useless" it's just pure bull. First, the media and the government stacks the deck against men, especially caucasians, then looks at the stacked deck and says we're not relevant. The only reason this crap has gotten as far as it has is that the majority has been scared into silence. If everybody spoke up the playing field would truly be even. |

I really do feel for you. It's not threatening at all, trust me. Hilarious and at least a little bit sad, yes, but threatening is about as far from the right word for it as you could possibly find. Though I'm glad you feel you're fighting a noble fight here, as I don't think there is any denying that you certainly are: standing up for the perpetually underprivileged, universally underrepresented, and always disadvantaged white men out there. Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, and their civil rights pioneer peers would applaud your courage for having the strength to really stand up to the machine here. And I join them, but then again, they're both black and probably are at the core of your being as incredibly disadvantaged as you are right now, so perhaps I chose the wrong set of people -- as they're obviously the root of the advantaged oppressors in this situation, and they're the reason everyone is able to keep you down as they do. |

![]() The world would be better off without white people. There definitely wouldn't be any stories on teenagers lost at sea. You don't see black people doing stupid s.hit like that.

![]() Joey got us off topic here. The issue is not a color issue it is a gender issue and it is real. As someone who daily sees girls outperforming boys you have to ask what is going on. If 60% of college grads are girls you can fully expect that the future for men is bleaker than the past. I'm happy that girls are doing well. I'm upset that something we are doing as a society is failing boys.

That actually may have been true 40 or 50 years ago. Nowadays, I don't think it's the case at all. If anything, it may even be an advantage to be a minority. I doubt a guy like Tiger Woods would be nearly the celebrity he is if he were just a white guy. Don't get me wrong. I'm sure he would have been the biggest celebrity of any golfer because he is the best. I'm just saying I doubt that he would have been making $100 million a year in endorsement deals if he was white. If he was white, he might have made $60 million a year in endorements. The reason is because it's considered "cool" to be a minority. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I'm just saying that in this day and age, I don't think there is any disadvantage to being a minority. Last edited by Rupert Pupkin : 06-11-2010 at 07:12 AM. |

But to deny the fact that there are still a boatload of inherent advantages in being born a white male is simply ridiculous. Just because we've got a black president and Tiger Woods got famous doesn't mean it's all of the sudden a level playing field and by and large across society minorities are not still underprivileged and disavantaged, and that the advantages white men are born with have somehow disappeared. It's a more level playing field than it once was, but it's a hilariously privileged assertion (always made, unsurprisingly, by white men themselves. Go figure) that somehow being a white man just ain't what it used to be and that's it's actually a disadvantage of some kind. |

Minorities are excelling in all areas. If you lined up 10 six-year old kids of all races in front of me and asked me to predict which ones would be the most successful, I would make my predictions based mainly on what kind of familes these kids came from. If you had a black kid from a middle-class family with good parents, I think he would have a better chance of being successful than a white kid who lived in a trailer park whose parents were drug addicits. If you have a black kid whose dad is a 22 year old gang member vs an Asian kid whose dad is a doctor, I think there is a better chance that the Asian kid would be successful. I think that race would play a very minor role. Do you think race is more important than what type of parents a kid has? |

I'm sure every state is a little different and race may play more of a role in certain states, but overall I think everyone has a fair shake right now in the US. I have a question for you. Do you think being half-black helped Obama or hurt him? All things being the same, do you think he would have gotten more votes or less votes if he was white? |
