A song less than a year old should not be played as the song for the Belmont. Not to mention the rendition was horrid. Oh, and the fact there is much more to the "Empire State" than the "concrete jungle." I always loved "New York, New York." I mean, when you are trying to somewhat replicate what "My Old Kentucky Home" is for the Derby, with what this song is to the Belmont the last thing that comes to my mind is a Jay-Z song. Thank god ABC cut away, we were seconds away of switching the channel and waiting for the Capital OTB replay. |

News flash: No song at any racetrack in the history of anywhere ever will approach the place "My Old Kentucky Home" holds. "New York, New York" is a cheesy song that's been beaten to death at Yankee Stadium over the past 15 years, and god forbid anybody tries to introduce anything youthful into the fusty American racing landscape. Once again, if you weren't in the city, you don't know just how big that song was last year and like it or not, Jay is one of NY's most recognizable citizens, so marginalizing him just makes you look silly. |

Its actually quite entertaining... However the fact remains, most seemed to hate the choice of song and the way it was done. I'm pretty sure ABC wasn't scheduled to pull away from it, that says a lot. |

![]() It's not about protecting a song so much as it's about calming down the hysteria about abandoning a cheesy, overplayed song that would never in a million years approach "My Old Kentucky Home" in significance. |

If Patterson did request this as some poster said earlier (not sure of the validity behind that), it is a situation where I wish he was not blind but deaf... ...and yes, you are fired up, and its very comical. Who knew a Jay-Z song meant so much to you! Its a little bit heart touching... |

![]() ![]() I actually think the song explains what went on with Zito afterward. See what I did there? I brought it back around...was that too meta for everybody? |

Hey if we're picking NY's most recognizable citizens, and we have to leave self-interested politicians out of it, let's go with Lady Gaga next year, folks. I bet she'd do an update of New York, New York that would raise some eyebrows at the very least. |

Cripes, now I know how Illinois-Arkansas based Hillary Rodham Clinton carpet bagged her way to a US Senate seat from New York. |

![]() Is that a "jump to conclusions mat"?
![]() BTW I hated the song too. Would have been ok if Alicia Keys had done it but instead they had some girl that would make VFTW blush.

![]() Exactly, she butchered the living hell out of it. Might be the first time I have noticed such a huge difference in actual musical talent. Either that, or Alicia Keys is just in another league, which I guess is possible

![]() Know what I just realized? She's on the rerun of SNL tonight, doing this very song as one of her two performances. It's here if you wanna watch it without seeing Charles Barkley doing a godawful hosting job: http://www.2dopeboyz.com/2010/01/09/...s-x-snl-video/ (2nd link down). It's good when she does it, but really, what we got today was a watered down mess. |
