I'd support sealing the border. I mean...it is our border. Who is Mexico to tell us what we can and cannot do with our own land?

has it occurred to anyone that perhaps the real reason there is no amnesty granted is that suddenly you'd add many millions to the official rolls? they could then get all the things that they currently cannot. you think we have issues now, consider that. then, if you grant amnesty, how many more show up between the passing of amnesty, and the last day to apply? seal the border? absolutely? continue to give work visas, by all means. grant citizenship? only on the continued limited basis we have now. think about the fact that our border with canada isn't an issue, but with mexico it is. cheap labor, that's why. why would anyone benefitting from it really want that to change? why aren't terrorists taking advantage, but mexicans are? that border isn't porous like some think.

IMO the same plan for the oil disaster in the Gulf should be applied to the illegal problem in that priority one should be stopping the leak while we simultaneously contain and dissipate the contamination that has occurred.

If N. Korea w/their very limited resources can detect a 110 lb oriental/American feet after crossing the border surely we can do the same.

The left doesn't complain right now about the border being closed to illegal immigrants. Maybe the left doesn't complain because they know it's not closed very tight and it's easy to sneak in.

I'm not sure I've heard the left complain much about better border controls. There probably is a quote out there somewhere contradicting that, but the only realistic solution is amnesty for the ones here and closure to keep the others out.

But it's probably not a good idea to call it "amnesty" because there are so many people that are against "amnesty" for illegal aliens. People don't want illegal aliens to be given citizenship. So we don't need to make them citizens. We can just give them a "work visa" or "work card" or whatever you want to call it.
