There are very few good older fillies and mares on the east coast right now, that's not a revelation.

Would Rachel Alexandra, Unrivaled Belle, and Zardana made this a more interesting race? Sure, but the over-saturation of stakes during the time between the Derby and Belmont destroys races with smaller purses.

Be prepared for a small field in the Vagrancy in a couple of weeks and the Sheepshead Bay will probably be a bunch of glorified allowance horses given the 4 G2/G3 races for older fillies and mares on turf between 4/10 and 6/5.

I don't get it from an owner's standpoint. If you have a decent allowance filly (like say, D'wild Ride in today's 8th at BEL), why on earth wouldn't you try a race like this? Even if Seattle Smooth fires, it'll take maybe a 90 Beyer to run second and pick up $30,000 and black type. There aren't any fillies out there that ran run a 90 Beyer for $30,000 and black type? I'm not asking for superstars, just a deeper field.
