I do not have any inside information on what their choices were but if none of the ESPN channels or major channels would take the race then just let it be shown on HRTV or TVG. The BravoTV was totally embarrassing to the sport.

I see two sides of the Bravo coverage.

On the one hand, it's an absolute joke to people who are familiar with horse racing. On the other hand, I bet some people who rarely watch horse racing may have watched it -- and with the Bravo-twist that they put on it, maybe those new viewers enjoyed the coverage. Personally, I can't say.

Should amateur fans be asked to complete a horse racing test before they enter the track? LOTS of regular fans might fail those too...

I think everyone's point of view here is correct. I think those of us who are rabid fans should just be grateful it is even being televised.

Universal owns NBC, Bravo, and USA (which is why USA had some of the prep races). I don't know how long Universal has the televising rights, but until they're up TVG and HRTV can't show the races live (I believe they have to wait either until the race is over or until the telecast is over).

I'm sure Universal figures they're gaining new viewership by showing it on Bravo, but I'm also sure they don't want to interrupt the regular programming on NBC on a Friday for 2-3 hours. And in all honesty, more people are going to tune in for the Derby over the Oaks anyway. No one (ESPN, NBC, ABC) makes a big deal over the filly races. It's all about the colts and the Derby. Not saying it's right, but that's how it seems to be.
