Who wins? The mind or the body?

I'm not sure I've seen a horse this talented with this screwy of a brain in all my years.

So hard to single this horse now because anything can happen. I thought for a second he was going to jump the infield fence.

I feel like most horses would've been dusted once they started watching the infield, but he hopped right back to the lead almost instantly and led the rest of the way despite being half-bored. He's got so many quirks but is so talented, he's a helluva interesting horse.

What's this I'm hearing about a possible try for the Derby Trial followed by the Derby? Seriously? Admittedly it sounds like they're not completely sold yet, but they're still talking about the chance if he blows them away in the Trial. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/hor...ory?id=5052314 'scuse me The Cliff's Edge Derby Trial.

I've heard of a tight squeeze working out. It's not like it hasn't been done to great success since a horse doesn't always need a million weeks between races, but if he's got the mental issues it sounds like he does, surely a 19 horse field could be problematic for everyone. Is it just overblown or was he really about to go for a stroll in the infield? I'm having trouble watching the race right now so I can't see for myself.

Not buying the Derby Trial Derby route, it simply doesn't happen anymore given the amount of time between starts. Derby Trail/Preakness though makes sense.

He's got the physical talent for whatever they throw at him around one turn, but he's not ready for it mentally in the slightest. They need to relax w/him. I'd take a possible sprint Eclipse over a totally freaked out hopeless horse in the Derby.

Watch the head-on replay of 85 in a 50's maiden win on Cal Racing ... he did the exact same thing for much longer.

Just as he did in the Whirlaway in between that brief window of time between the two seperate muggings he recieved.

To me, the coolest thing about his performance today was that he actually was the outright winner of all four seperate race fractions.

He ran the fastest 1st quarter, fastest 2nd quarter, fastest 3rd quarter, and fastest final 1/8th.

This may seem common - but it's certainly not. Pretty rare actually.

He is unquestionably a nutcase. Tough to have money on a horse that could just as soon turn into a jumper in a flat race.

I think this one is a lot worst then Corinthian, Bandini was bad also. He tryed to bite High Flys ear off during a race.

He has so much talent, but like you guys said it seems like he's crazy. They should forget about two turn races all together and just have him sprint.
As far as betting him, all I know is that I could never confidently use him as a single in a pick 4 ticket. It's one thing to get beat, it's another to totally short circuit and do something crazy (most likely at a very short price).

First blinkers? I've seen them screwier than that.... It was only the horse's 3rd real start tossing the Whirlaway... Still green and maybe a little off in the head, but far from batshit crazy - he'll get better - I'd love to see him in the Derby Trail, but don't think two turns ought to even be an experiment much less a target until he's figured out what he's doing...

This horse is a bet-against next time out. There really was no other early speed to push him and he still had trouble staying focused on the backstretch. People love to overbet a hype horse like him.

Usually horses that have "mental" issues usually have underlying physical issues. A lot of horses that run like him have spotty vision.

The horse is obviously talented, but putting him in the Derby would be a huge mistake IMO considering his running style and that he has not shown he can go two turns yet. Seems to me running a horse like this in the Derby could ruin this horse even if he performed well in the Derby Trial.
