He was lovingly refered to as the kindest horse in HK on all the Hk threads.
When his stable mate, Vengeance of Rain, was sent to quarantine before a trip to Dubai the owner of Syllabus (Sir John Swaine) graciously allowed his horse to remain with VOR so he wouldn't be lonely. Syllabus began his career in Hong Kong in Class 4 but moved up quickly his second season (Class 4 to 1). A member of the illustrious Top 50, Syllabus, a 9 year old gelding, retires with a rating of 109. El Segundo (NZ) Retired
06 Apr 2010 Racingandsports.com.au Popular galloper El Segundo (NZ) has been retired after being injured in last weekend's Group One George Ryder Stakes over 1500m at Rosehill. In what was his first trip to Sydney in his long career, the rising nine-year-old sustained a tendon injury after finishing fifth behind Danleigh. Caulfield trainer Colin Little described El Segundo, by Pins out of the Oak Ridge mare Palos Verdes, as the best horse he has trained and said the gelding had given him and connections six seasons of thrills, most of which were at the top level. El Segundo , consistently ranked one of the highest Timeform rated horses in the country, won 12 races including four at Group 1 level, including the 2007 Cox Plate. He was narrowly beaten the previous year and finished fourth in the race again last year. His other Group 1 wins were the 2007 C.F. Orr Stakes, the 2006 Underwood Stakes and the 2005 Yalumba Stakes.
