I have a feeling that although he seems to be ridiculed daily around here, when people think of favorite alltime calls many of them will be Durkins.

Beside Durkin, one off the top of my head was Vic S when he called the Japanese Cesario at Hollywood a few years back. With my bad memeory the name of the race escapes me. I also don't remember exactly what he said but I know that my hair was standing on end.

One Vic Stauffer call, in particular:

June 2005 - Hollywood Park - when an earthquake hit.

“We are in the midst on an earthquake here in Southern California,” Stauffer announced as his rooftop booth swayed. “By the way, folks, I want you to know that I love you all and horse racing was my first love.”

The race was a photo finish between Dark Beauty and Pleasant Thunder, which Stauffer described by declaring “these two come to the wire in a shaker. It’s a Photo. I don’t know who won, nor care"

The Cigar BC Classic was great.

The Earthquake call was terrific.

Durkin called a race in NY that finished with a long drive to the wire with Congomambo and Kyungbukung. He never fumbled a word. He can be brilliant.

A few years ago at Saratoga Harness, Larry Lederman was filling in and a mare named Dominatrix won byseveral lengths. His call to the wire was "Dominatrix, feeling the sting of the whip and loving it...Dominatrix ..."

Michael Wrona got in trouble for refering to a front runner as "...staying like a mother-in-law!"

Either of Tiznow's Classic wins. Watch them all the time on Breederscup.com and always gets me excited for BC day.

The Secratariat call was great....Earthquake call very good...I'm such a newbie...I liked Dave Johnsons' calls...."And down the stretch they come" during the Triple Crown Races!

I really liked Phil Georgeff a lot.

The first time I heard him call a race run in the slop and say, "Here they come splashing out of the turn," I became a Phil fan.

They could play that a gadzillion times and it would still make me teary eyed. What a great moment! Last year in the Blood-Horse Breeder's Cup magazine they did a beautiful article about it and how much that race meant to everyone...."and Tiznow wins it for America!"

Second best; Affirmed and Alydar running neck and neck in the Belmont Stakes, "Alydar has poked his nose in front!!" the crowd goes crazy....of course we all know what happens, but it gave all Alydar fans, even years later, goosebumps.
