Eighth Race: 1. Soaring Empire 2. Afleet Express 3. Mine N Gems
SOARING EMPIRE showed promise last year at 2, winning at first asking at Monmouth with a
wide rally and then finishing third behind Thiskyhasnolimit and Uh Oh Bango in the Grade 3
Iroquois at Churchill. Lacking the flashy figures of others in here, he should offer value in his
first start at 3. AFLEET EXPRESS looms the likely favorite after winning his debut and then
finishing second in a fast allowance Jan. 30. The third-place finisher from that race, Family
Holiday, returned to win an allowance sprinting on the turf. MINE N GEMS moved forward
second time out, leading from start to finish in a seven-furlong maiden race here timed in
1:21.97.
