See, Progressives don't hate the Government, and they expect the Gov't to do a lot of necessary things with their tax money. They expect Gov't to do almost all these things that charities do (but the Conservatives won't let the Gov't do it.) For instance, we believe in a National Healthcare system to take care of kids with cancer. You want to send a few "deserving" kids to ST. JUDES in Memphis. We see that as your attempt to judge which poor people are deserving. That really is the difference here. Progressives aren't as interested in judging people who are poor. Private charities are often a way for Conservatives to be hyper judgemental with the money spent on the poor. I think this http://spcala.com/aboutUs/everyname.shtml is the type of charity that Progressives tend to favor. It's the one I support. That, and I feed n' vet a couple of pretty useless mutts. One is def. a charity case. Those are always microchipped, cuz they don't want them coming back.
