To strengthen New York's native breeding and racing industries, the Task
Force recommended that OTBs be required to prominently display and give preference to all live New York State races. "From the beginning, OTBs were authorized to operated in a manner that is compatible with the interests of breeders and other stakeholders," said Task Force Member Skurnik. "It is crucial that New York's own racing product be given prominent display at the New York OTBs." Hopefully this doesnt mean that Vernon Downs, Buffalo Raceway or Monticello coverage will supercede strong out of town signals in terms of coverage on the OTB channels

Task Force Chair John Van Lindt will join me on ATR at 4:15 today...
Considering how loud and long many people complain about government involvement in racing, this Task Force's work should be absolutely cheered. Instead of another phony posturing designed to protect the patronage hierarchy that the OTB Corporation represents, this Task Force listened to EVERYBODY and rewarded them with calls for important and substantive changes that would vastly improve the OTB operation and put the benefit back into this public benefit enterprise. I'm totally impressed with what they've done here and hope even half of what they call for is implemented...
