But unbelievably only 3 of those 23 #1 or #2 seeds that lost their final regular season game went on to win the Super Bowl!!!! 3 out of 23 in 19 years! I think that speaks volumes as to how big of a factor momentum is in this game and just how utterly STUPID it is to rest starters and tank your final regular season game if you have a bye after that, effectively killing any momentum."

The 3 winners?

1999 Rams

1994 49ers

1991 Redskins
Why not? Isn't that what the NFL wants.....Parity.
Which is the quicker way for a NFL head coach to end up on the unemployment line?
Have your #1 seed team that played well the whole season lose in the playoffs?

Or to have your #1 seed team suffer a devestating injury in a meaningless week 17 game with nothing to play for?

I'm guessing that #2 will get you fired quicker. So until that reverses, I really don't see any big changes coming any time soon.

Congrats to Jets fans on making the playoffs. At least for one round there will be a team other than the Pats to root against...

The problem as I see it is how can you knock teams for losing on purpose to get a better draft position yet condone it in these cases?

I really think that is more of an NBA issue. I really can't spot a game/team that has been dumping games to get a better draft spot. I think it has to do with job security and knowing that no one is really safe in this fair weather league.

you can't

goodell has to impose penaltiies for all of this , i'm a jet fan , and in my heart i know the colts s/b 16-0 , but , their not , they coaches / gm pulled players and should be ashamed .....if they hadn't won a few yrs ago i could see it , but they got a super bowl 3 yrs ago .....play the starters and go for history

the worst thing to do is to pick who gets in and who doesn't .....the colts and bengals both picked who got into that 6th seed and wouldn't it be ironic if the jets beat them both again

I don't think the Bengals (or Colts for that matter) picked who they wanted. Give the Jets some credit, the Bengals on their best day wouldn't have won that game last night.
There is nothing that can be done about this situation. You just have to have that your club takes care of buisness early in the season and they are in the position to do what they want.
