Would have had this tri, but again the Midatlantic Cooperative vs. Churchill Downs dispute locked me out.

Joey,

I assume you fall within the 35 mile restriction zone of a PA track, but do you have a friend or relative's address you can use elsewhere to open an online account?

Steve,

Good suggestion. I've been meaning to set up another way of wagering. I have an online account with another major service, but haven't gotten around to actually putting a balance in there yet. I have to do that. This "opportunity cost" of not being able to place a bet on certain contests is really getting me peeved.

If only the fans came first, right?

Joe

Well, the players/fans will come first only if the racetracks, owners and horsemen can survive. The negotiations between TrackNet and Midlantic is simply about the wager origin point getting more of the simulcast wagering dollar... and they deserve it.

Right now, using a 20% takeout number (equaling .20 cents on a dollar) Midlantic keeps .17 and TrackNet properties .03 of every .20. TrackNet basically is trying to move that number closer to .16 & .04 and Midlantic won't budge.

So in other words, the people who bring you Suffolk, Penn National, Delaware, Philly, Monmouth, Meadowlands, Dover, Pocono, etc., are denying their customers Fair Grounds, Santa Anita, Gulfstream, Golden Gate and in two weeks Oaklawn. Take it up with them because they're the villains in this dispute, not TrackNet... not CDI... not Magna.

And the crap from the Midlantic side is 99% misinformation or potentially outright lies.

Meanwhile Joe, fund your online account and play...

I agree 100% Steve. The point of origin should get more of the wager. Thanks for illuminating the relationship as it exists.

The "fans coming first" comment I made more reflects the fact that many casual players don't see the details of the dispute but only that they can't wager where they would like to, and the measures to get around this are convoluted at the least. And people in NJ, some of whom are my relatives and friends, are totally locked out right now.

If you hear anything more about the situation please keep us posted.

Joe
