Default Island Fashion

Island Fashion is going to be sold after the BC Distaff. Anyone from the ESPN board knows this is one of my favorites. She was not a coddled one either. Her race record is 30 6-5-4. She ran well on dirt and turf. She won short, she won long in Graded stakes. Three grade 1's. She ran against everyone, even the boys.

In my opinion she was mismanaged after the Santa Anita Handicap in 2004. She gave her all in that race and I thought she should have been given a break instead of sending her to the Apple Blossum against Azeri. She hasn't won the last two year's but has come close losing by a length or less this year in her graded stakes starts. I wish her the best of luck in the Breeder's Cup.

Any idea of what she will bring at the November sale in Kentucky? I think she has won or placed in 15 graded or black type races. Over $2 million in earnings. I don't think her pedigree is considered to be that desirable (no storm cat). If you bought her who would you breed her too? Petionville is a Seeking the Gold and she is a great granddaughter of Danzig.

Been following since I saw her win the Delaware Oaks and the Alabama in person back in 2003. How many races did Barclay Tagg train her for?

I was at Saratoga that day when she won the Alabama...I think Johnny V won 5 or so that day....she saved my butt, that's for sure.

I agree that she has been mismanaged, especially the trips to Dubai to face the boys. She ran a hell of a race when 2nd to Southern Image in the Big Cap in 04, but unfortunately since she's run in that one again as well as the Pacific Classic and that just didnt work out too well for her. It seems that they try to sell this gal a lot, I know she was entered for the Keeneland sale last November but was withdrawn. My guess on sale price is somewhere between $5,000,000 and $7,000,000. Ashado got $9,000,000, Riskaverse $5,000,000 last year and AP Adventure went for $4,700,000. I think her pedigree may hurt her a bit being by Petionville instead of a more heralded sire but her results speak for themselves and if someone like Darley wanted her for their growing operation, the price could be a bit higher...

Along with her less than regal pedigree, does she have a fertility problem. She got te black type early . Wondering why they waited untill now to make her a broodmare. Wouldnt her age take away from her value. What would be the Max number of foals posible? I read recently where the top notch[maybe the best of here generation] broodmare, Personal Ensign ,was pensioned this year. She was 22.

Takes more than G1 wins to make a mare whose yearlings will sell for multiple millions - which is what those million-dollar broodmares are purchased for. Island Fashion has a distinctly unfashionably pedigree. Her sire is reliable but not top drawer; her damsire is downright obscure; her dam is the only black type under the second dam; only black type under the third dam is regional California stuff. I am not saying that she can't produce a good runner - with the right mating, she very likely will - but am looking at her catalogue page, which is what counts for many commercial breeders (and broodmare buyers).
