That is exactly how pinhookers make their living. They'll go to the Keeneland September Yearling Sale and buy horses that look fast and will be able to work a fast 1/8th or 1/4 of a mile at the two year old sales a few months later. The good pinhookers have made millions of dollars doing this. They'll buy a yearling for $100,000 in September and turn around and sell it for $400,000 in February or March after it works fast. People like Murray Smith have gotten rich doing this.

To be a good pinhooker, you obviously have to be able to pick fast horses. Slow horse don't sell well at 2 year old sales.
