I live in NY, work in racing in NY and ride show horses that come off tracks here. Had it not been for a lack of stall space, I'd have bought 2 or 3 last year at this sale. Both were mares, once brought no bid and the other went for $1k. I imagine that since the market overall is down, ALOT that the NY market will be too.
I saw some very nice yearlings out of major winners and producers, sired by very good sires draw pitiable bids in KY last month.
I let several of my "horseshow" friends know about this sale. Last year I walked through shedrows late in the day and was offered 4 or 5 horses for FREE, as long as I could get them off of the grounds. One was a great looking mare with a pedigree that sporthorse folks love. If breeders/sellers are that desperate to unload stock, I doubt that they would care if they go to a racing or pleasure riding/show home.

No . I just find it interesting . I note that there are few NY sired horses . Must be more breeding for racing from the NY sires.

So true. One should really swallow hard and be ready to race those or take a beating at the auction.

Agreed. More breedings need to be thought out before diving in . hip #138 http://nybreederssales.com/sales/oct09/138.pdf , yearling colt, just went rna $44k by Mutakddim/Miss Rochester -Southern Halo. a prior City Zip weanling rna'd for $37k http://nybreederssales.com/sales/oct09/77.pdf ...and Elusive Quality filly #33 rna $125k http://nybreederssales.com/sales/oct09/33.pdf

The book was far stronger this year than last. I saw the City Zip topper and the Gone West and both looked like nice horses, though weanlings are very tricky to gauge.
I saw some very nice looking yearling walk by me while I was standing outside, I didn't catch their prices. It's the older mares I worry about. Though some have nice breeding themselves, most of the mares at this sale are older and with no record or producing runners that win or place in stakes. Let's face it, they give out black type for even the cheapest NY stakes at F'lakes etc yet I saw little blacktype produce from those mares.
As I was leaving I met a pretty grey Mining mare in foal to Pure Prize. I'd have loved to have taken her home, she was sweet and her handler said she'd love to be pet. I have a (maybe misguided) theory that the Pure Prize babies are better on synthetic tracks, so I'd have given the baby to Chuck to train in KY and Chicago. If I gave the foal away it would be guaranteed to win a BC race, if they ever run on Poly again.
