edit - Never on Sunday / Sariska. I think Fame and Glory gets beaten...

Good luck to Pipedreamer who won't win here but who i like. Forgotten Voice too. A bit outclassed but a nice horse all the same.

Wasn't expecting this... cheers to Twice Over (and so happy Pipedreamer got mentioned cause he never gets any press).

TWICE OVER TAKES CHAMPION GLORY

By Martin Kelly and Tom Peacock, Press Association Sport

Twice Over gave trainer Henry Cecil and jockey Tom Queally Group One glory with a smooth victory in the Emirates Airline Champion Stakes at Newmarket.

Runner-up to New Approach 12 months ago, the Khalid-Abdullah-owned 14-1 shot led over two furlongs out to win for the first time at the top level.

Mawatheeq (7-1) stayed on well for a half-length second, with Sariska (8-1) a length further back in third.

Fame And Glory's pacemaker Set Sail took the field along but he was virtually ignored by the rest of the runners, headed by Barshiba.

It was not long after Set Sail slipped back that Queally asked Twice Over for his effort and the four-year-old responded with a turn of foot that took two lengths out of his rivals.

He stuck on well top give Queally his fourth Group One success of the season and Cecil his third win in this race after Indian Skimmer (1988) and Bosra Sham (1996).

However, Mawatheeq's rider Richard Hills was quick to lodge an objection prompting a stewards' inquiry, which was quickly dismissed.

Queally told Channel 4 Racing: "This horse deserves it, he's had so many near-misses.

"Thankfully the race went well, I got a nice run through. We got his confidence right back up in the last couple of runs and it paid off today.

"Henry could see it in his work on a morning and he was bullish coming into the race. I knew he was a big price and an outsider but Henry could see something nobody else could."

Cecil said: "I was worried about the ground today because the softer the better for him.

"It's great for Prince Khalid Abdullah because he has been a great supporter of mine and I want to thank him so much, and Jane my wife, if it wasn't for her I wouldn't be here today.

"We all need a confidence boost now and again. It doesn't matter how good they are, they have to enjoy themselves and want to do it."

Mawatheeq's trainer Marcus Tregoning said: "It's a frustrating day as I thought he'd win.

"My feeling is that he's best over a mile and a half and he ran here before and got unbalanced. He definitely stays in training."

Michael Bell, responsible for third-placed Sariska, said: "It was a colossal run because everything has been against her this autumn. Ideally she wants a mile and a half on easy ground.

"I am very proud of her and she will be a beast next year."

Trainer John Gosden was delighted with his two runners, fourth home Pipedreamer and Virtual (eighth).

He said: "Pipedreamer ran a blinder but a mile and two furlongs is just a little too far. A mile and one is perfect.

"It's a similar case for Virtual who ran a stunningly good race too."

Our columnist Simon Holt tipped up Twice Over at 14-1!

... speaking of which he won!

No really!

His last win was July 1st, 2005 (not a typo).
