Don't forget the Jock's agent he has to get paid too that in itself will keep several of the jocks from earning 1 million this year

That $80-100 number depends on the track as well. I'd guess it's actually lower in some places, perhaps higher in others.

Definetely add JJ Castellano to this list. He rides Bernardini and Pine Island. Enough said. Thats potentially half a million right there.

I thought it was actually 10% for a 1st place ride and something like 5% for place and show.

Yeah, that is right. On average, a jockey will make about 7% of their horses' earnings.

and the agent usually gets 25 percent of what they make, so factor that in as well. Not to mention they tip out their jock Valet.

Yeah, but they also get paid on for riding the mounts that they don't win any money on. This isn't included in the 7% that I stated earlier, so they actually make quite a bit more than the horses actual earnings. I wonder how much money Jerry Bailey made the year that his horses earned 23,000,000? If you factor all these things in that everyone has stated in this thread, it would be very hard to come up with a number!
