Can you do that with a Mac? Yeah, you can if you buy the proprietary tools needed to work on one (laptops especially). Why? Cause Apple likes to fugg their customers.

I used to work in software development, and man, EVERYONE I worked with hated Macs.
i'm just a lowly end user but found the additional cost and short learning curve on a new OS worth it. things are just sensible on a mac. they work how you'd think they would. i learned iphoto by opening it up and using it. i never read a manual. pretty much the same story for almost all the apps.

i guess i'll find out about repair costs if anything ever goes wrong. so far, nothing has.

you can run windows on a mac if you choose (though for the life of me i can't imagine why someone would do this after working in OS) so i'm not sure what softwear is unavailable.

i still use a windows machine for work. but it's like having to drive a car without power steering or power brakes. everything is just harder to do.
