Default NYRA/MGM ready to go and have been

This is just a quick shout out to all the uneducated imbeciles who are making the NYRA's broke posts. Their attempts to get up and running have been stymied by politicians attempting to position the franchise to be awarded to other interests(and Im sure there isnt anything in it for them ) and have stymied the efforts of NYRA and MGM to get up and running.
I just can't believe how many ignorant folks there are in the world.

Interesting. Kerkorian is not the most loved man in your neck of the woods. It will be an interesting marriage if consumated. I can hardly blame the politicians for at least being skeptical.

Interestingly enough, Terri Lanni is a big horse guy out west.

Didn't i just read that NY has not been furnished with the agreement between the NYRA and MGM ? It seems NYS must know what that agreement reads before they can award NYRA a renewal.

Chairwoman for the state racing oversight board Carol Stone said, "I'm not prepared to say today that, if there are not VLTs there is not more money, but I am saying it's hard for me to envision a plan that could legitimately repay VLT advances without VLT revenue."

I have no clue what she means but this VLT delay has been way too long.

Hint: She has no idea what she means either ... and ...

... there's still nothing but a hole in the ground at the World Trade Center ... five years after it was put there.

Welcome to the sewer known as New York politics.

Sumitas,
If memory serves, video lottery terminals were approved for Aqueduct two years ago. We're still waiting.
Games are definitely being played. Games, games and more games.

Has to be. Like I said, Tioga Downs, the new harness track out here, got their VLT license about a year ago and they are up and running. About 500 of those things with more planned. And they built a whole new facility in the last year as well.

I hear you Sumitas.
Look at Finger Lakes, a little track in the middle of no where.
Purses have increased, the concessions have more play (the bar is just outside the slot room), and everybody is having a good time.
So what if somebody would rather pull a lever than cap a race...what ever "floats your boat".
On the scale of the larger tracks, do you think Trump is playing cause he doesn't want his AC casinos cut? Or could it be the Oneidas? Or could it be that the kickback arrangements haven't been negotiated?
I dunno...I just dunno.

We all know what the problem is Oracle. It isnt a question of ignorance. The question should be, why does the NYRA have to rely on slots in order to make a profit!!!!! Don't worry Oracle, NYRA will be able to spend all the slots money and will be broke once again.

Perhaps you dont understand that NYRA is a not a profit, therefore is encumbered by laws that force it to give any profit to the state. If you can't keep what you make how can you do well businesswise?

Where do you think the money goes????

The money goes back into racing where it should go. The hacks in NYS just want their palms greased. That's why you won't see a final decision until Spitzer gets in there. Pataki's old appointees just want to milk this process for everything they can get before they are kicked out.

We all know it is a not profit organization. But not for profits are able to keep money on the books. They have to keep money on the books in order to pay for expenses. Not for profit really only means that they do not pay taxes. But the NYRA does not have enough money to cover their operating expenses. It is just a poorly ran non-profit.

I am far from a NYRA apologist and I do believe that the old guard operated with their head in the sand for many years but if you look at the situation objectively, between the state, otb's, and out of state competition, how could NYRA survive without help? Its a pretty simple business that has one revenue source and many mouths to feed. You can say its run poorly but how do you really know the issues that they face?
