Here's some more trivia and I'm going to stick older stuff so that it just can't be googled up and create the false impression that some actually know the answers who do not! Tough luck Googlers.
Name the horse that Mike Smith chose to ride in the 1994 NYRA mile instead of Cigar, for whom the race is now named.

Personal Ensign defeated males in the 1988 Whitney Handicap at Saratoga. There were actually only two other horses in the race. Name them.

In 1993 Shug McGaughey won 5 graded stakes race on one program at Belmont. He also had an allowance winner on that card named Regal Solution. Miners Mark won the JCGC, Lure won the Kelso, Strolling Along won the Lawrence Realization, Heavenly Prize won the Frizette, and Dispute won the Beldame.
There was only one other grade one on that program, the Champagne, and McGaughey's horse ran third. Name the winner and McGaughey's horse who ran 3rd.

Very weak not knowing the other horse Bethani. Very weak. He was a legend!!!! He won at all distances on all surfaces on all tracks. He was the man!! Or should I say, the man without a set of balls. He was a gallant gelding, trying hard all the time, and every NYer who played horses in the 80's loved him!!!!!!!
Any guesses?

Correct in part one sir! Mike Smith and his agent at the time, Steve Adika, chose to ride Devil His Due on that day putting Jerry Bailey on Cigar.
That same fall, Smith and his agent chose to ride Sky Beauty over Heavenly Prize from McGaughey's barn, and in the following spring completed their blunder trifecta by selcting to ride Talkin Man over Thunder Gulch in the Kentucky Derby.
It was estimated that the Smith/Adika team cost themselves approximately 22 grade one victories just on those three horrible decisions alone. Smith became sour and when Bailey slipped into his place on Cigar he was able to steal the Mott barn from Smith(who was on thin ice there for smarting off to Mott after losing a stakes race in which Mott blamed his ride) and the Bailey era began.

YOu still need to answer the other two questions though Da Hoss in order to get full credit.

Don't remember the Shug horse, although I should. The Smith stuff is hilarious. I might have to be included in with him though, because in Thunder Gulch's case I was between he and Talkin Man in the race, and sided with Smitty. Cost me some money to say the least. Smitty did get some redemption BC day 1995 though. Remember Inside Information hydroplaning through the stretch.
Correct on Dehere!!
