As Blood-Horse stated, numbers were up across the board due to the "Sheik Mo Stimulus Package":

The gross revenue for the 76 horses that sold was $25,470,000, which was a whopping 40.3% increase from the opening session a year ago. The average price grew 10.7% to $335,132, and the median price increased 6.4% to $250,000.

To my surprise I realize I've never actually been able to watch a session start to finish, I usually catch just a bit because I'm not able to be home to see the whole thing on my computer. How long do they go?

PS. Love your avatar Sightseek.

So far this has been pretty fun to watch. Just saw that they're re-offering the Kingmambo - Imperial Beauty filly that went for big bucks. Was she the one somebody dropped $1M on and freaked everybody else out so they stopped bidding? The guy didn't have credit and I believe the implication was he was imbibing spirits. She was nice and will be back in place of Hip #202. I hope I got the filly in question right, but they throw around numbers so fast I'm not positive. We shall see.

The first time I ever stood near the ring I was scared to move in fear that it would look like a bid. Now I know some guys have "secret bids" and spots they stand at.

Thanks for the avatar comment!

I went to the CTBA sale today at Pleasanton, I think our sale topper was the Benchmark colt that sold for $32,000... what does $32K get you in Saratoga? The droppings from the million dollar horse?

Dont worry, I'll bet that 32k colt will have more starts and earnings then the majority of these ridiculous priced colts at Saratoga.

Yup, just remember to tip that poor guy in the ring whose big job seemed to be scoopin' the poop. I'm sure if anybody was there in person, you'd then pick up the cash register noise as he filled each bucket with expensive excrement. I say they kill two birds with one stone next time and offer Fasig-Tipton Gourmet Coffee--you feed the coffee beans to the yearlings before the sale and (like I think they do with some sort of bird) wait for the horses to pass them on through.
