It's happened here in California too. It scares me as I live in a very rural secluded area and my 7 horses are alone all day long. I do lock my property up as it's completely fenced in, plus I have 4 German Shepherds loose watching the property. I also post warning signs the dogs will attack and bite, but still, if people want something bad enough, they'll find a way to take it. I feel so sorry for that poor horse, no doubt it wasn't a humane death. I hope whomever eats the meat chokes to death on it.

On a serious note if a horse is slaughtered in what is deemed humane, and people eat the animals meat and use the animals hide, what is the real difference between a cow, lamb, goat, pig or horse? I don't want to eat a horse and I would be horrified to see a horse slaughtered inhumanely but i just ate a USDA prime NY Strip. I can't imagine it was a pretty thing to watch the cow I ate get killed. Better to kill them humanely then have Pags starving them to death right?
